Yes, the British did start bombing German cities (before that the British dropped leaflets!) If you read criticism of Irving's "Dresden" book you'll see he changed the estimated number of dead several times (Irving started off with a figure of 135,000; he lowered it (reluctantly) to 30,000; and then bumped it up to 202,040. Irving's last figure was based on a forged document. A paper was discovered giving a figure of 20,204 - the forgers had simply added a zero.

The Luftwaffe was bombing British airfields in order to knock out the RAF. It was a great relief to the RAF when the Luftwaffe switched to bombing London. The RAF was desperately short of pilots and planes. This idea that Churchill pushed Hitler to do things he didn't want to do is ludicrous. No one, not Irving, no one, knows what plans Hitler had for Britain.

Oh don't be stupid! Hitler ordered Paris to be destroyed. Dietrich von Choltitz surrendered rather than have Paris destroyed. If some other commander of the Wehrmacht had of been in charge Paris may have been destroyed. Hitler also ordered Germany to be destroyed (Speer didn't obey this order).

I own a copy of Irving's "Hitler's War". I have volume one and volume two in the PaperMac editions (before the 1991 edit where Irving removes the gassing of the Jews). It's an excellent read. Gallops along. Irving ruined his reputation by associating with fanatics and falling under their spell. I bet he very much regrets soiling his reputation. What a fool.
